My Health Problem Is . . . |
| |
Many people associate doctors of chiropractic with the treatment of back pain, neck pain, headaches, sports injuries or similar neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. Granted, these conditions rank highly among the reasons for initial patient visits, however, they do not form the basis for the profession's existence. Chiropractic is founded on the understanding that the brain coordinates and controls all bodily functions. Everything from thinking clearly to initiating an appropriate immune response is mediated by a healthy nervous system. Distortions in the framework - in particular, those complex structures of the spine – alter normal nerve function and our adaptability to life stress. A body free from nerve interference, on the other hand, has a greater command of itself, and an improved ability to respond within its environment.
Chiropractic is not the treatment of condition or disease but rather a systems approach to health focusing on facilitating the inherent recuperative power of the body through enhanced function. Over the years countless case studies have reported positive changes, in a variety of medically defined conditions, whilst under chiropractic care. To the chiropractor, this phenomenon is considered to be a positive “side effect” from having a body in a state of better neurologic and structural balance. In essence, healing is an inside job that requires a co-ordinated and appropriate response.
Chiropractic’s vitalistic approach to the preservation and restoration of health positions it as a leader in the global “Wellness Revolution”. |
