History

Daniel David Palmer
D.D. Palmer
Founder of Chiropractic

The concept of spinal manipulation for the restoration of health can be traced back to early Chinese writings and has been part of most recorded civilizations that we know of today.

"Both medicine and chiropractic can trace their lineage to Hippocrates, the celebrated Greek physician of 400 B.C.. While both professions still retain elements of his philosophy and teachings, the truth is Hippocrates medications and manipulations lacked the destinctive modus operandi inherent in the practice of contemporary medicine and chiropractic."

- Virgil V. Strang (Essential principles of Chiropratic)

It was not until 18 September 1895 that DD Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, transformed crude “spinal manipulation” into the specific short lever “spinal adjustment” that is unique to the chiropractic profession and thus separating it from all other healing arts.

In a little over 110 years chiropractic has grown from a new healing art into the largest licensed drug and surgery free, primary healthcare profession in the world. Millions of people around the globe are benefiting from the chiropractic lifestyle as it leads the “Wellness Revolution” through the 21st Century.
