I was born in Australia and grew up in the Darling Ranges just outside of Perth. Like many before me, chiropractic wasn't my first career choice. In a past life, I was a fire fighter with the Western Australian Fire and Rescue Service and it was during this time that I sustained a significant lower back injury. I found myself in a remarkably debilitated state and was told that I would most likely need invasive surgery. After trying the traditional route of anti-inflammatories, pain killers and physiotherapy, my condition progressively worsened. On the advice of a close friend, and in an act of desperation, I hobbled into the office of Dr. David B. Lehenbauer - Chiropractor.

This was to be a pivotal experience for me as I was intrigued by this doctor's alternative approach to health. It was unlike any I had been exposed to before in that he was more interested in finding the root cause of my condition, rather than just alleviating my symptoms. I had lower back and thigh pain and up to that point I assumed this was where the problem lay. Doctor Lehenbauer, on the otherhand, looked at the functional and structural relationship between the nervous system and my whole spine. His explanation of how the body heals from within, and that distortions in the spine could interfere with our nervous system's ability to maintain internal balance, seemed to resonate with me. His enthusiasm and passion for what he did was nothing short of inspirational and three months later I returned to active service without having surgery.

The impact that chiropractic had on my life was undeniable and with Dr Lehenbauer's encouragement I embarked on an educational journey that eventually took me to "The Fountainhead" of the chiropractic profession, Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa. I am a firm believer that knowledge, like water, is ultimately purest at its source, and therefore, it seemed logical for me to earn my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree where it all began - Palmer. In November of 2000 I moved with my family to England and the following January opened Telford Chiropractic in Muxton, Shropshire. In 2002 we relocated the practice to larger premises in nearby Newport, and in August 2004 changed our name to Newport Chiropractic.
